Group Coaching lesson plan structure

As our programme continues to grow Head Coach Matt has been joined by other coaches.

To help maintain the quality and consistency across all the groups we ran a weekly theme across group sessions for the last half term of 2025.

Due to the positive feedback from the coaching team and players we have now formalised the structure for each half term into 6 weekly Themes.

Week Theme Primary Goal Focus Area Examples
1 The Modern Engine Technical efficiency & power • Kinetic Chain • Modern Forehand • Backhand "Brain" • Loading/Coiling • Contact Point • Footwork timing
2 The First 4 Shots Winning the analytics battle • Serve+1 Forehand • Backhand Protection • Big Returns • Return+1 • 2nd Serve Hunting • Directional Control
3 The Traffic Light System Situational decision making • Green Zone (Attack) • Yellow Zone (Rally) • Red Zone (Defense) • Cutting Angles • Emergency Slice • Recovery steps
4 Point Construction Using "Heavy" tennis & patterns • The "Y" Pattern • Depth vs. Pace • Topspin Height • Backhand Corner Traps • Vertical movement • 2-Foot Margins
5 The Net & Transition Moving forward to "close the door" • Approach recognition • Setup volleys • Swing volleys • Closing the gap • Overheads • Chip & Charge
6 Match Toughness Tennis IQ & Mental Strategy • Playing the score • Doubles "string" movement • Modern formations • Beating "Pushers” • Weather adjustments • Routines

The last week of each half term will always be competition week, depending on the length of the half term some will have each Theme, sometimes there will be less and sometimes there will be the same Theme more than once.
